Alde Calongcagong was born and raised in Windsor. He obtained his Bachelors of Music in piano performance from the University of Windsor and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Western Ontario. His principal teachers include Dr. E. Gregory Butler and Ronald Turini. Alde has also had the opportunity to participate in master classes with Valery Lloyd-Watts, Dang Thai Son, John McCabe, Tom Plaunt, Jane Coop and Janina Fialkowska.
A former Rose Bowl Winner at the Windsor Essex Kiwanis Music Festival, Alde was also the recipient of the J. Francis Leddy Entrance Scholarship, and the Ouellette/Yamaha Piano Scholarship at the University of Windsor. At the University of Western Ontario, Alde was awarded the top pianist at the London Music Scholarship Foundation Competition.
Alde has been teaching piano since 1988 and is a member of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association) and the RCCO (Royal College of Canadian Organists). Many of his students have won top prizes and scholarships at the Académie Ste. Cécile Music Festival, ISM Music Festival, Windsor Essex Kiwanis Music Festival and the Canadian Music Competition. He has also served as an adjudicator at the Merriam School of Music Festival and the Académie Ste. Cécile Music Festival. Alde has taught piano at the Académie Ste. Cécile Academy of Music, Walters Music School (Mississauga), Merriam School of Music (Oakville) and has taught class piano at the University of Windsor.
Aside from teaching, Alde has also been active as a collaborative artist and has performed throughout Michigan, Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. Highlights include a CD recording as piano accompanist with the Italian Men's Choir of Windsor and a performance of the Mozart Piano Concerto in C Major K.467 with the Windsor Community Orchestra. He has also had the opportunity to perform as an orchestral pianist with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Recently Alde completed a CD with the Welsh tenor Gwyndaf Jones which was recorded at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Ontario. With Gwyndaf, he has also had the opportunity to appear on OMNI television at the 2008 Canadian Ethnic Media Association gala awards.
Just recently Alde was appointed into the College of Examiners for the Royal Conservatory of Music. He also serves as the Music Director at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Windsor.
Alde is married to Cecilia Rubiales who is a music teacher for the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board. They have four children (Emily, Maya, Ben and Ty).
